Brands Hatch October 2006 Champion of Brands - Open 1300 class Bemsee/MRO

Back to Brands Indy again, this time it's the big race. "Champion of Brands" Many ex Bemsee riders have returned from their national championships for this esteemed title. Zak Barry was last years winner and, now retired he was on hand to pass on the trophy. ============================= Neil Faulkner is “Champion of Brands”. After fantastic battles in the Open 1300 races it could have been anyone of Steve Mercer, Rob Elsmere, Neil Faulkner, James Webb, Danny Imberg, Mike Goodfellow to name a few. They all had shots at the lead, and lap times were extremely close. It looked like it was going to be Steves Prize, one that would have been a nice finish to an amazing season, but it wasn’t to be, after a high side at Paddock Hill Bend on lap 5, saw him taken away on a stretcher (fortunately it’s not serious and nothing is broken, Steve was his usual chirpy self later in the day) [IMG8527] Despite having a rocky weekend with several DNF’s, Neil managed to be at the sharp end after the restart. After many laps battling with ‘Reckless’ Rob Elsmere, he managed to take the lead, and win the race. Zak Barry was there to hand over the “Champion of Brands”, a reversal of last year when Zak took it from Neil. Many other classes were also decided this weekend. Craig Morley was well clear at the top of the Aprillia RS 125 Superteens table, but pressure from Connor Behan ensured he could not relax. This was not a problem however and on Sunday morning Craig could remove the no 18 and ride out on track proudly wearing no1. The Clubman 600 title was almost secure for John Angel, but a few more points were required to ensure his victory. John also came out on Sunday morning proudly displaying no 1 Thunderbikes saw a two horse battle for the lead Rob had a large lead on his SV650 however James Wainright wasn’t going to give up the chase on his ZXR400. Rob commanded the weekend however and secured the Thunderbike 2006 title. The next Bemsee/MRO outing will be at Lydden on 21/22 October including the “Lord of Lydden” battle.
